Severn Lake Points Of View
The following letter from the Severn Lake's Founder was published
in the Western Mail on October 23rd, 2008:
Challenging Porritt
SIR The BBC programme which gave a platform to the
environmentalist Jonathon Porritt to promote the Severn Barrage
was factual and thought-provoking for the viewer.
As the only person to place a planning application before
the DTI (now BERR) for the Severn Lake, my experience
at meetings I have attended in the South West is that the grass
roots of the Green Party, Friends of the Earth and others are
wholly supportive of my scheme. Their leaders are not!
The interesting thing missing from the programme is that Mr
Porritt and his SDC Group want the Government to build and own
the barrage and that the STPG (Severn Tidal Power Group) have
no further interest in the barrage and have shunned the feasibility
study.
The Severn Lake Co has the only (Welsh) scheme that, in my
opinion, will be chosen in December to be further studied for
its viability, yet Mr Porritt through his PR personnel, refuses
to discuss my project with me even though our end mission, to
see power from the Severn is the same (see our website: www.severnlake.co.uk).
Through the Western Mail, I challenge Mr Porritt to a one-to-one
discussion, and the BBC to an equal platform for the private sector
projects before Her Majestys Government.
Gareth Woodham, Founder of the Severn Lake

of the Severn Lake Co are on page

Reply? As of December 1st 2008, no reply has been received
from either Mr Porritt or the BBC.
